What is an Exergy battery®?

Exergy battery® is a nickel-metal hydride battery for power applications that has been made larger and more powerful through a patented structure with high heat dissipation characteristics.



Unique Strengths

Exergy battery cells and modules are built in house based on patented design and chemistry. Our design allows for an efficient removal of heat created during operation, allowing the batteries to be charged and discharged more quickly. Combined with a chemistry that is inherently safer than other compositions means that our batteries are designed for demanding applications where reaction time and safety are imperative.

  • Exergy BESS is able to provide power within 20 msec. It is therefore possible to provide UPS services at a fraction of the power consumption of traditional UPS systems.
  • Exergy BESS can be fully discharged within 90 sec, resulting in a high power density. This means our BESS costs less per MW and has a reduced environmental impact.


Hybrid Operation

Exergy BESS continuously monitors the health of the grid and supplies power immediately to stabilisethe grid. Due to its high-power capability, it is ideally suited to be hybridisedwith existing assets, such as backup generators, which have a slower response time, but longer power provision capabilities. The Exergy BESS provides power at first, and if the power requirements are longer than the BESS can provide, a signal is sent to a “slow” asset to ramp up. Once the ramp up commences, the output of the BESS is reduced such that the total power output remains constant. Power from the slow asset is then provided for as long as necessary.


Integration with Existing Assets

To optimize the operation of our various assets, Exergy has developed an Energy Management System (EMS) that integrates Exergy BESS with virtually all existing assets.

This makes our integrated system ideal for in-meter installations in a variety of use cases, including factories, hospitals, and data centers.
